About Labelwise
Labelwise is software that turns a food business’s recipes into ingredient labels for the UK, and keeps a record of who did what. These terms apply to everyone who uses it, including people invited to join a business. By creating an account or joining one, you agree to them.
Your labels are your responsibility
Under the Food Information Regulations 2014, including Natasha’s Law for food prepacked for direct sale, the food business operator is responsible for the food information it gives, and for its accuracy. Using Labelwise doesn’t change that.
Labelwise works labels out from the recipes, ingredients and allergen details you give it. It never guesses an allergen: every allergen comes from a supplier’s specification or your own declaration, confirmed by someone in your business. So a label is only as accurate as the information behind it.
- Check every label before you use it, against the food it goes on.
- Signing off a label in Labelwise is your business confirming that it is correct and complete.
- Use a label only on the product and version it was signed off for.
Keeping your information accurate
You’re responsible for:
- your recipes, the amounts in them and their cooking yields
- your ingredients’ allergens, confirmed against current supplier specifications or your own declaration
- updating them when a supplier, a recipe or a product changes
- the rest of what goes on a label, such as the name of the food, percentage declarations, storage, use by dates and your business details
Nutrition filled in from McCance and Widdowson’s Composition of Foods is typical values for a food, not your ingredient. Check it against your supplier’s figures where you have them.
Printing
Labelwise won’t make a label whose text would fall below the legal minimum size. Print at 100%, not “fit to page”, and use the alignment test to set your printer’s offset, so labels come out at the size and place they were made for.
Your team
Everyone in your business signs in as themselves, so the record shows who did what. Keep your login to yourself. The owner of the business decides who has access, and should deactivate anyone who leaves. Your business is responsible for what the people it invites do in Labelwise.
Plans, billing and cancelling
Plans are priced by the number of products, billed monthly or yearly, and you can cancel at any time. After you cancel you keep read-only access, and you can still export every label you’ve signed off, with its record. We never hold your compliance records back.
Your information
Your recipes, labels and records belong to your business. We use them only to run Labelwise for you. The record of who did what can’t be edited or deleted, by you or by us, as it is what an inspector may ask to see. Our privacy notice explains how we handle personal information.
Availability
We work to keep Labelwise running and your information backed up, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. Keep a copy of the labels you rely on: you can export them at any time.
Our liability
Labelwise is a tool to help you label food. It doesn’t replace your own checks. As far as the law allows, we aren’t liable for losses that come from the labels you use or the food you sell, or for indirect losses such as lost profits. Otherwise, our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn’t allow us to limit.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We’ll tell you before a change takes effect, and ask you to agree to it.
The law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts deal with any dispute.
